La liga

LaLiga, officially known as LaLiga EA Sports (as of the 2023–24 season due to sponsorship), is the top professional football division in Spain. Founded in 1929, it is widely regarded as one of the strongest and most popular football leagues in the world.

LaLiga consists of 20 clubs that compete annually in a 38-match season (each team playing the others twice – home and away). The team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned Spanish champion, while the bottom three are relegated to Segunda División, the second tier of Spanish football.

LaLiga is known for its technical style of play, world-class talent, and historic rivalries. Two of the most famous clubs in world football, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, dominate the league’s history and have contributed to its global appeal. Their fierce rivalry, known as El Clásico, is one of the most-watched sporting events globally.

The league has been home to legendary players such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Xavi, and Andrés Iniesta, among many others. In recent years, clubs like Atlético Madrid, Sevilla, and Real Sociedad have also emerged as strong contenders.

LaLiga is governed by the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) and plays a major role in shaping football culture, not just in Spain, but around the world. With its passionate fan base, iconic stadiums, and emphasis on skillful play, LaLiga continues to be a major force in international football.
